New Florals in Home Design

At Marvin Gardens we like to keep up with the latest design trends, and what better place to see them emerge than at home design trade shows like last week’s Maison & Objet in Paris? Design blog Apartment Therapy followed the action at the January event, and we were especially excited to see them report on a trend that ties in gardening and design: the new wave of floral patterns showing up on textiles and wallpapers.

These 2011 florals are far from subtle, instead embracing a more dramatic edge. In fact, they’re “over the top, decadent, often dark and very dramatic,” according to Apartment Therapy. Here are a few examples:

New Wallpaper Trends

We showed you some beautiful metallic wallpapers at the end of December, but there are still other wallpaper trends we wanted to share with you. Going beyond simple paint and updating walls with wallpaper is becoming more and more popular lately. Like David Klaus at Graham & Brown told ShelterPop, “People are finally moving away from just a feature wall and are once again wallpapering two, three and four walls in a room.” ShelterPop also compiled the latest trends in wallpaper, so here’s what you need to know to stay up-to-date:

  • Some papers these days offer beautiful texture and can be painted on in case you want to change the color.
  • Wallpapers are starting to match textiles in a room, like having upholstery or curtains in the same pattern as the walls.
  • Papers are featuring hand-designed, classic patterns.

So, are you planning to bring wallpaper into your home in 2011?

A Bit of Whimsy for Your Walls From Graham & Brown

Wallpaper guru Graham & Brown exhibited their new modern wallpaper collections at this year’s International Contemporary Furniture Fair. The showcasing of their new items was a great success with all of the collections well-received, according to the company’s blog.

This year’s ICFF was the official launch of our latest designer wallpaper collection with Amy Butler, as well as a sneak preview of another designer collection with Kelly Hoppen. Designer wallpaper collections which were also exhibited were, Barbara Hulanicki’s Flock Collection and new modern wallpaper designs from Laurence Llwewlyn-Bowen.

Graham & Brown also showed a few collections from our own design studio. Among these were, the Spirit collection, a romantic bohemian collection full of beautiful florals and striking damasks and stripes.
